THE NUANCE GROUP TO OPEN SWITZERLAND’S FIRST ARRIVAL DUTY FREE SHOPS ON 1 JUNE

Zurich – 2 May, 2011: Following the recent changes to Swiss legislation allowing the purchase of duty free goods upon arrival at the country’s international airports, The Nuance Group is pleased to confirm that it will open Arrival Duty Free Stores at both Geneva and Zurich airports this summer when the new Law comes into force.

“This is a very exciting development for us, as we believe arrival duty free is a great opportunity to extend our services to customers flying into Switzerland. Through the introduction of new stores at Zurich and Geneva, we will be able to offer arriving passengers the full range of core category products as well as other convenience goods,” commented Andrea Belardini, CEO Europe, The Nuance Group.

Work is already nearing completion at both key gateway locations, where the company will add a further 2,000 square metres of arrivals retail space to its existing Swiss operations. The introduction of the new stores will also enable the company to launch a new “collect on return” service, which will allow passengers to select products upon departure and pick up upon their return into Switzerland.

“Together with our airport partners, we aim to provide exciting new retail opportunities, not only for Swiss residents, who can enjoy a very convenient shopping experience, but also business and leisure travellers coming to and from Switzerland. Now with the addition of the arrival shops and the collect on return service, we’ll have the opportunity to capture all arriving flows,” added Belardini.

Stores will open at Geneva and Zurich respectively on 1 June, followed by a second Zurich store later this summer. It is expected that 50 new jobs will also be created by the company, which already employs over 550 people in Switzerland across its airport operations and corporate head office, which is based near Zurich Airport.

Nuance has enjoyed a long-standing presence in Switzerland, having commenced retail operations at Zurich Airport 50 years ago. As the company’s biggest retail operation in Europe, Nuance currently operates almost 60 airport shops across more than 7,000 square metres of retail space in this market.

Last year, the company announced it had extended its Zurich concession to 2018, and at the same time revealed its plans to add two Arrival Duty Free stores, as well as a further 3,000 square metres of shop floor. This includes the introduction of new state-of-the-art walk-through concepts for Nuance’s existing Tax Free stores, which will be relocated and expanded as part of the airport’s plans to accommodate a new centralised security control area, which will be fully operational by the end of 2011.
